Putting the NFL 2006 draft in perspective ...

I read this great article from 1 of my favorite writers (Dan Wertzel) on the yahoo page.

The great thing is that someone finally named a defensive player as a possible no. 1 pick. Most experts always say that teams don't like to spend a lot of money on people who don't score, but I say otherwise ...

You know the tired old cliche of: Defense wins championships? It's true, in almost any sport 85 times out of a 100 times the beter defensive team will win. Just look at the last NBA champs, what did they have going for them? Yup defense defense. Well even though I'm still more partial to AJ Hawk, Mario Williams would be an instant mature addition to any team in the NFL.

About Reggie Bush ... I still think he's the no.1 draft pick despite all the allegations. By the way I think the NCAA is a moneygrabbing, slavedriving, hypocritical bunch of pigheaded greedy and grumpy old men (and some women). Everyone is grabbing for the dough, except for the players who most of the time have fake they are students. This system sucks and the NBA and NFL imposing age limits (with a lot of help from the NCAA, judges and unions) doesn't help players. It's strange "justice" because everyone has the right to earn a buck (or a lot of bucks) and you get sent to Iraq at the age of 18, but you can't play in the NBA. Strange ...

My final draftorder for the first 10 picks:

1. Reggie Bush
2. Mario Williams
3. Vince Young
4. D'Brickashaw Ferguson
5. AJ Hawk
6. Matt Leinart
7. Winston Justice
8. Vernon Davis
9. Michael Huff
10. DeAngelo Williams

Sorry no Jay Cutler (no first rounder in my book) and surely no slacking LenDale White (the biggest dissapointment since mr. Clarrett).

Have nice weekend and nice draft people.

Posting ain't easy ...

Long time no see ...

The reason I'm not as active on this blog as planned is for several reasons: I'm busy with my house, I'm busy with leaving politics, looking for other oppurtunities and last but not least planning a well deserved holiday. So you see it's tough to be me ;-))

The last time I was blogging I was all in favour of USC. They got beat by Vince so kudos to him. There has been an uproar about the coming NFL draft, about where Jay Cutler would land, is Matt Leinart any good and whether or not Vince Young can tie his shoelaces on route to the draft. It's quite simple. For the pros the best pick would be Bush or AJ Hawk.

I'm more inclined to go for AJ Hawk. Bush is the best player available, but in a bad team he will get failed by an inept coach and get hurt by his opponents and his playmaking abilities will not be used as they should be. It's a pity ... The player (in my opinion) most able to contribute is at no. 5/6 in most mock drafts: AJ Hawk. This guy is ready to rumble and will be a cornerstone for any team who picks him. LenDale White screwed up and should be very happy if he still is a top 20 pick for any team.

About the QB's. None of these guys is ready ... Not mentally and not physically. Cutler has got the mechanics but not the playerbrains to be a winner. I'm not talking Wonderlic here.
Hey the guy played at Vanderbilt and was a loser!

Leinart has got the most mechanics, is a proven winner but has got not as much heart as other guys like Cutler or Young. Vince Young is gifted but lacks poise, some mechanics and is an immature version of Michael Vick (in other words he will get hurt). In the pros you have less time and defenders are bigger, stronger and faster which means stay in the pocket and only get out of it if there isn't any other throwing option. For these reasons my draftorder for QB's would be:

1. Matt Leinart 2. Vince Young 3. Omar Jacobs. 4. DJ Shockley 5. Jay Cutler. My number 3 and 4 rate higher as Cutler because they are proven winners (esspecially Shockley).

The Texans should be smart and go for Bush. Leinart will go to the first team needing a QB and Young lands as second chosen QB (which could be anywhere between place 5-15) .

That's it for now seeya.
